How do I know if a tree needs to be removed?
Warning signs include large dead sections of the canopy, fungus or soft wood at the base, deep trunk cracks, a new or worsening lean and roots lifting from the soil. Some of these can be managed with pruning; an on-site look is the reliable way to decide.
What should I do if a tree falls during a storm?
Move everyone away, stay clear of any wires (call the utility and 911 if lines are involved), photograph the damage for insurance and call us on (443) 924-9215. Do not cut a tree that is under tension or resting on a structure yourself.
Is stump grinding necessary after tree removal?
Not always. In wooded areas stumps are often left. In lawns and beds, grinding is usually worth it because stumps are trip and mower hazards and some species resprout.
Can a damaged tree be saved?
Often. Trees that have lost some limbs or have minor decay can frequently be kept with corrective pruning and monitoring. Trees with split trunks, major root failure or most of the crown missing usually need removal.
What affects the cost of tree removal?
Tree size, its condition, how close it is to structures or lines, equipment access, how much rigging is needed and whether wood and stump removal are included. We quote each job after seeing it rather than publishing flat prices.
How is a large tree removed near a house?
It is taken down from the top in sections. Limbs and trunk pieces are cut and lowered on ropes, or removed from a bucket truck, so nothing drops onto the house.
What is the difference between trimming and pruning?
Trimming usually refers to clearance or shaping cuts; pruning to selective cuts for tree health and structure. Most jobs include both.
When should I call an emergency tree service?
When a tree or large limb has hit a home or vehicle, is blocking access, or is cracked and leaning toward something it could damage.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Anne Arundel County?
Many residential removals do not, but properties near tidal water may be within the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, where removals can require review or replanting. Check with Anne Arundel County or the City of Annapolis before work.
